S. Pellegrino's annual "World's 50 Best Restaurants" list was released on Monday at a celebrity-chef-studded event in London. Eight of the fifty restaurants are in the U.S.: Alinea in Chicago, Daniel, Per Se, Le Bernardin, Momofuku Ssam Bar, wd-50, and Eleven Madison Park in New York; and the French Laundry in Yountville.
Shockingly, I've dined at one of them. Alinea, Per Se/French Laundry, Le Bernardin, and wd-50 are on my culinary bucket list, as are El Bulli (Spain - a pipe dream) and the Fat Duck (England).
What about you? Do you have aspirations to dine at any of the 50 best restaurants in the world? If so, which ones?
When one of the world's 50 best restaurants is located in the D.C./Baltimore/Southeastern and Central Pennsylvania region, maybe I'll save up some money and call six months in advance to see if I have any chance of getting my no-name name on some impossible reservations list.
ReplyDeleteOr maybe not.
You don't want to venture as far as NY? Per Se has a table for 2 available at 9pm tonight. Le Bernardin has a reservation at 5:15. It's not always impossible, at least with some restaurants.
ReplyDeleteWell, if I happen to find myself in New York, I'll check one of them out. But no...I'm not going to New York just to eat, even if the restaurant is one of the world's 50 best. There are enough almost-world-class restaurants a lot closer to home.
ReplyDeleteIf going to one of these places didn't cost me two weeks salary, I'd be there in a heartbeat!
ReplyDeleteI may just give in and go to The French Laundry one day.
